Coconut Oil: A Traditional Cure for Balding Spots
When I was in school I often had my hair in a tight ponytail, and this caused a lot of my hair to fall off. This was coupled with a lot of stress from academic expectations. So naturally, my hair suffered a lot. One day this friend of mine actually realized how thin my hair was getting in some parts.
She was an Indian girl, and she told me that Indian ladies had a lot of traditional remedies for getting long, straight and thick hair., and one of them was coconut oil.
She was so kind, she even packed me a bottle of coconut oil that I tried out. Although I felt that coconut oil was a bit heavy for my hair on a daily basis, I did try it during school holidays. It helped but I think I should have used it for longer.
Here are some ways you can use coconut oil or its alternatives.
Coconut Hair Cream
Use this at least twice a week and massage it into your scalp for at least 15 minutes. Use coconut oil if you don’t have coconut hair cream. Don’t skip the massage phase as it is important for your scalp to absorb the nutrients in the cream or oil. Put it on at night before going to bed and then wash it off with shampoo in the morning when you wake up. This way, your hair won’t look so droopy.
Use it in Spray Bottle
Mix coconut oil with water in a 1:1 ratio so half oil and half water. Spray on your hair and leave on for at least 2 hours. Rinse it off if you want. The longer you can leave it on, the better.
Combine with Aloe Vera
I found this recipe which I tried once and I felt that it helped my hair relax. Fresh Aloe Vera is not easy to find. Thankfully my mom grows some in a pot in her garden, but she didn’t let me cut off leaves often.
You will need 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1/2 cup Aloe Vera gel and 2 tablespoons honey. Mix it up and then apply the thick mixture directly onto your scalp with a folded facial cotton. Wrap your hair up in a warm, damp towel for half an hour beofre washing it off.
Do try out these methods and let us know in the comments if they work for you!
