5 Awesome Benefits of Lemon Juice for Your Hair
Lemon juice, lime juice and other citrus fruit juices have plenty of benefits for your body. They’re rich in Vitamin C and can boost your immune system. Vitamin C can help protect you from diseases, but what can it do for your hair?
Unknown to many, Vitamin C can directly improve the health of your hair too. Since lemons are rather expensive, I tend to use limes ( the green ones). They’re cheaper and easily available at the local markets.
Whichever citrus fruit you get, you can apply it to your hair for these benefits:
Control Dandruff
In cases where your dandruff is caused by bacteria or fungal infections, lemon juice exposure can help to kill these germs off. To use, squeeze one lime and dilute its juice with about 3-4 tablespoons of water. Add a teaspoon of vinegar to the mix. Dip a facial cotton into this liquid and apply to your scalp, especially at the areas with the most dandruff. Leave the mixture in your hair for at least 20 minutes before rinsing it off.
Apply it regularly for a few days and see your dandruff symptoms improving. Repeat this process every 3 months once to prevent dandruff from recurring.
Control Oily and Itchy Hair
Our hair secretes natural sebum oils and sweat throughout the day. To prevent oil and sweat building up on your scalp and causing irritation, you can wash your hair with some lime juice. Squeeze enough lime or lemon juice to fill half a cup, then dilute it with 3 cups of water. Splash this water over your hair at the end of a long day, and rub it into your hair with the palms of your hands. Finally, rinse your hair with clean water.
When using lemon juice, you can shampoo your hair as usual after you’ve finished treating your hair with the juice. Otherwise, you can also choose to go shampoo-free on these days.
